Special Education Parents' Advisory Council (SEPAC)

Dr. Lauren Schoen
Interim Superintendent of Schools

Carrieann DeVito, M.Ed.
Director of Special Education

Purpose:
According to the New Jersey Administrative Code in Special Education, "Each Board of Education shall ensure that a special education parent advisory group is in place in the district to provide input to the district on issues concerning students with disabilities."

Vision:
The vision of the Upper Saddle River School District  Special Education Parent Advisory Group (USR-SEPAG) is to encourage honest and effective communication, understanding, and mutual respect in a supportive partnership inclusive of all students, parents, educators, and the community at large in an effort to ensure the delivery of appropriate services to students with disabilities.

Mission:
USR-SEPAG is a parent-led committee that works in partnership with the school district in order to provide input about policies, programs, and services that impact students who receive special education services and their families in Upper Saddle River. USR-SEPAG works to increase the involvement of families of children with special needs in school activities. USR-SEPAG allows parents and families to learn about district programs, services, and resources and offers the opportunity to raise questions, voice concerns, and provide direct input to the school. USR-SEPAG advises on issues that affect the education, health, and safety of students with special needs.

Interested in joining HHK-SEPAG?
USR-SEPAG committee meetings are not the forum for a discussion about individual students or a child’s IEP. Topics are general in nature and are limited to those that impact all students or a group of students. Parent(s) and/or guardian(s) of a student or students who receive special services (e.g., IEP, therapies, 504-plan) who are committed to the committee’s mission and vision are encouraged to join.
