    Objectives:
Through thematic design and communicative-based language instruction, this course will prepare students for authentic language use in the real world. In the 8th Grade Spanish class, students continue to develop proficiency in all four language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing - with emphasis on the ability to communicate orally and in writing. The basic skills are strengthened through review of the elementary grammar structures and introduction of more complex grammar, while vocabulary building is emphasized for conversation and reading comprehension. Students are expected to speak the language in class. The themes of study shopping, traveling, and the environment. The course also integrates aspects of the geography, customs and culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and The American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) recognize three communicative modes for student language acquisitions: the interpretive mode, the interpersonal mode, and the presentational mode. All three modes of communication will be assessed throughout each unit.

    Materials:
Charged Chromebooks and binders, including in-class handouts, MUST be brought to class each day. Students are required to maintain their own Spanish binder, which includes all notes, activities, and classwork presented during the course of study.
