• Dr. C. Lauren Schoen
    Interim Superintendent of Schools

Dr. C. Lauren Schoen has always been passionate about education. After being honorably discharged from the United States Military Academy at West Point, Dr. Schoen pursued her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from William Paterson University.  Shortly afterwards, she went on to earn her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Saint Peters College.  While serving in her first Superintendency, she decided to pursue and attain her Doctoral Degree in K-12 Educational Administration from Seton Hall University.  It is her educational path that further strengthened her passion for education and the importance of the social and emotional health of her staff and students.

As a results-oriented professional, Dr. Schoen has successfully led five school districts over the past 20 years as Superintendent of Schools for the Rochelle Park School District (PK-8), the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District (9-12), the Mahwah Township School District (PK-12), and most recently as the Interim Superintendent for the Fort Lee Public School District (PK-12) and the West Orange Public School District (PK-12). Dr. Schoen is currently serving as an Interim Principal of George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Prior to retiring in August 2020, her commitment to education spanned 33 years during which she enthusiastically served as an elementary and middle school teacher, vice principal, principal, assistant superintendent and as superintendent of schools. Her personal commitment to learning did not end after receiving her Doctoral degree in Educational Administration, as shortly afterwards she became an instructor at Seton Hall University teaching courses in the same leadership program from which she graduated.

In 2015, she was honored to be chosen as the Northern Regional Superintendent of the Year— a recognition she is most proud of as she was chosen for this award by her peers. She has served as President of the Bergen County Association of School Administrators and has been an active member of the New Jersey Administrator and Supervisory Association (NJASA) for over a decade. She has also proudly co-chaired the NJASA Spring Leadership Conference Committee from 2011-2019.

Dr. Schoen very much looks forward to serving as the Upper Saddle River School District Interim Superintendent of Schools - a position that she will bring the character and standards that have proven to be a positive influence in the academic and personal development of the students and staff she has had the privilege to connect with throughout her career.
