Kindergarten
Students begin using computers in the library and learn the proper names of the parts of the computer and how each part functions. Kindergarten students use illustrating tools to create graphical representation of their ideas using a cloud-based program called Wixie. The keyboard is also used to type simple text. Digital Citizenship is explored as a means to communicate online under the supervision of a trusted adult.First Grade
Students work on computers in the library by learning to log on to the network using a unique username and password. Technology projects enrich the curriculum, and are an extension to the units taught in the classroom. Students use vetted databases, such as Pebble Go, to learn how to complete research online. All students discuss Digital Citizenship to participate as responsible technology users, and visit websites that are meant for children.Second Grade
Students work on computers and spend time to develop their keyboarding skills. Keyboarding is introduced as a means to develop correct hand positioning and posture while typing. Student technology projects are more text based, and incorporate research from various reliable sources. Projects are published using Wixie. Digital Citizenship lessons focus on safe online communication, keyword searching, and advertisements aimed at children.
